If you're a high school student who does well in a subject, you can help a Native middle or high school student do well in it too. College students and adults are welcome as well.

Why volunteer

It helps them, and it helps you.

Many Native students live far from tutoring centers, and paid tutoring is out of reach for many families. An hour a week from you can change how a student feels about a class.

  • Service hours, tracked. Log each session on your dashboard and we'll confirm your hours for school, NHS, or scholarship requirements.
  • You set the pace. Choose your subjects, the grades you're comfortable with, your weekly hours, and how many students to take.
  • Real leadership. Teaching one-on-one is the kind of experience that stands out on college applications.
  • Support when you need it. A coordinator sets up every match and is one email away.

Your profile

Students see this with your first name and last initial. What do you like about your subjects, and how do you explain things?

Only coordinators see this. List relevant classes and grades, AP or test scores, clubs, and any tutoring you've done.

Volunteer code of conduct
  • Hold sessions only in the meeting room a Wordspring coordinator provides.
  • Never ask for or share phone numbers, home addresses, photos, or social media accounts.
  • Be patient, encouraging, and respectful of every student's culture and background.
  • Tell a coordinator right away if a student seems unsafe or anything feels wrong.
  • Help students learn. Don't do their graded work for them.
